Athlete Stories: Conrad Smith (Rugby Union)


Conrad Smith is a rugby union player, having taken the field 94 times for the All Blacks as an outside centre. He also amassed 126 caps for the Wellington Hurricanes in Super Rugby and currently plays for Section Paloise (Pau) in the French Top 14.

His list of achievements is incredible and includes receiving the prestigious award of Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2016 for services to Rugby. He also won the Rugby World Cup twice (2011, 2015) and staggeringly, was only on the losing side in a Test match 9 times. He is a former Hurricanes skipper and is their joint most-capped player.

Outside of rugby, Conrad obtained a Bachelor of Laws – LLB with Honours from Victoria University of Wellington in 2003 and is a Board Member of the NZ Rugby Players Association.
